New England Maple Leaf

New England Maple Leaf

While waiting to pick my son up from school one crisp and sunny Fall afternoon, my attention was caught by the colorful blaze created by the sun shining through the maple leaves. I sat there thinking how nice it would be if the trees looked as beautiful as this all the time when it hit me... I can make leaves out of copper!

Each New England Maple Leaf is cut by hand from sheets of salvaged copper and then heated with a torch and quenched to obtain a variety of beautiful colors (aka patina). This process continues until I'm happy with the results. Each piece is then hammered, numbered, dated and signed. Since the patina achieved by the heating process can't be controlled each New England Maple Leaf is unique. All of them are beautiful!
